Fashion: Not Only About Looks

By Gunner Glam

Because fashion is constantly changing, there are new trends each week as displayed in magazines like Vogue and Cosmopolitan, which show elusive and  seductive outfits.

Studio Brow wants to let people know why although there is a lot of appealing content displaying what fashion is or should be there is more to it than meets the eye.

Fashion has the power to alter an image and make a social statement.

It is the prevailing style or custom, as in dress or behavior.

The latest fashion could be something, like a garment, that is in current mode.

There are people who see fashion as an art form. To other folks, it could be a religion.

People can see it as a method of utilizing clothing, accessories and hair to show or hide something about them.

Fashion can be used as self expression, to serve as an extension of personality. For instance there are gothic, skater, soccer mom and professional fashion statements.

People can use fashion to disguise the true self: a conservative in vamp clothing or a vamp in conservative clothing.

Fashion statements can be made with clothes, accessories, shoes, hair, makeup or even a cell phone.

There are designers which have great influence of what direction fashion goes in.

Tending to stay five or six months ahead of the season, the press attend fashion shows presenting designer collections. The media outlets give editorial coverage to trends they think their readership are interested in.

Store buyers work months prior to the season to place orders with manufacturers for styles they think their customers will want to purchase.

Celebrities and other opinion leaders are usually the first to show off new looks, influencing the public who buys into accepting emerging trends.

Ultimately it is the consumer who will decide what is “in” when choosing whether or not to buy into a trend.

New York, Paris and Milan are considered the major places for designers and manufacturers of fashion apparel and accessories.

London, Los Angeles, Toronto, Hong Kong, Sydney and Sao Paolo in addition to hundreds of other smaller market areas are host to fashion designers and manufacturers.

There are people who pay attention to fashion in small doses which is a healthy way to approach it. They make sure wardrobes are in step with the times and indulge in a trend or two each season.

A few reasons why fashion is relevant:

  • It shows people’s thoughts are modern and flexible.
  • Fashion has escapist qualities to help a person deal with the pressures of the world.
  • Everything a person puts on sends a message.

  5. This is a terrific post. Love the point that you made about the necessity to follow fashion trends in small doses and to not get completely consumed by the latest trends.
